Coming from Astro A50's I was a little sceptical to say the least. I'm going from a super high end $450 wireless headset to a $229 wired headset with a n undoubted reputation, but one far less renowned than the A50's.
Upon getting them home I took them out of the box and the first thing you notice is just how solid the build quality is on these things. Everything feels solid. From the metal frame to the bulky yet very comfortable ear cups. The wires are braided and feel strong and the microphone, although detachable feels very snug and secure to put in.
The next thing you notice is that support band it has and just how comfortable it makes them when wearing them. The band takes just about allnthe weight off your head, I genuinely forgot a couple of times I even had them on. The leather ear cups were a worry for me going in as I sweat. A lot, when wearing headphones. Not with these, there something about the material that is very breathable which was fantastic. So far these are looking like a great headset.....
I thought first that it try them plugged into my PS4 controller, which I did and honestly the sound quality was very poor. A decent stereo sound but nothing more. I questioned my decision for the first time. Did I make a mistake? Should I have bought the rigs? Should i have kept my A50s? With All these questions running through my head I decided to give them a go in my phone. I put on some music and alas it was better. Much better. I wondered the issue. Was it my PS4, was it my controller? I decided to plug them in via the USB and tried again.... I booted up the division 2 and it was much better than before. The sound was finally something worth listening to. Worth listening to but probably still not worth the $229 I paid for them
Well boy was I wrong.......
After a bit of fiddling and trying to change settings etc I came across a button on the inline controls, A button with the Dolby logo on it.... I pressed the Dolby button and all I can say is wow. What a difference a button makes. Finally the 7.1 surround sound I was promised.
The 3m long cord is braided and solid meaning that I can easily sit on my couch and play plugged into my PS4 usb port. The little inline control block comes with a little alligator clip on the back to clip it to your shirt, shorts, whatever you want to keep it within range. After owning for 2 weeks I've played about 70 hours worth of games like The Division 2 and Days Gone, 2 very sound heavy games. In that time, I have not once played without headphones. Something I very rarely did with the A50s due to worrying about battery life.
After some pretty heavy use over the last 2 week's including one 12 hour session Not once did I feel headphone fatigue. You know that feeling on either your ears or the crown of your head from having headphones on.... We've all had it, well no more.
Overall I would honestly say that the Hyperx Cloud Revolver S was the best gaming accessory I have ever bought for my particular needs. The fact it's wired, the sound quality, the comfort. For me personally. It is the perfect headset the only minor downfall is the sound quality being rather flat when using on the PS4 without using that audio control box.
100% would reccomend to anyone looking at wired headsets.
