Being a gamer and content creator, I’m always on the hunt for gadgets that make my setup more functional and enjoyable. One of the latest additions to my desk is the Ember Mug, a product I was initially excited about despite being a bit skeptical about. I have however grown to appreciate just how useful it is, though it does have at least one drawback.

Put yourself in this situation, you're locked into an intense game of COD Warzone, or immersed into a deeply story driven encounter in The Last of Us 2. The last thing you want to do is pause and reheat or remake your coffee, especially during the particularly intense moments in Warzone. Enter the Ember Mug, which has genuinely transformed how I enjoy my coffee during these moments. No longer is this a worry as I now trust that my coffee will always be at my ideal temperature whenever I get a moment to take a sip.
The magic lies in its ability to maintain your chosen temperature for hours. I set mine to a perfect 58°C (you can adjust it to your preference via the app), and no matter how long I’m engrossed in a game or writing reviews, my coffee stays warm. It’s incredibly satisfying to take a sip of hot coffee during a 40 minute game of Warzone without worrying about it going cold.
For content creators, the Ember Mug is an absolute game changer. When I’m in the zone writing reviews, editing videos or brainstorming ideas, it’s easy to lose track of time. With this mug, I don’t have to worry about my coffee going cold while I’m focused. It’s always warm and ready, which helps me stay energised during those marathon sessions.

The Ember app deserves a shoutout too. Setting up the mug was seamless, download the app, pair via Bluetooth, and you’re ready to go. The app lets you fine tune the temperature, name your mug, and even tracks how much caffeine you’ve had during the day. I didn’t expect to use the app much, but it’s become an integral part of my daily routine. It’s simple, intuitive, and works without a hitch.
As much as I love the Ember Mug, it isn’t perfect. There’s one major issue I’ve noticed, the dreaded coffee skin. If you don’t take a sip of your milk based drink for a couple of minutes, a thin skin forms on top. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s certainly off putting.
I’ve tried stirring the coffee regularly or even giving it a little swirl, which do seem to help a little, but nothing seems to completely prevent it. I have tried dropping the temperature a couple of degrees with no success. Any further dropping of the temp would result in the coffee not being at the temp I desire which kind of defeats the purpose. This is the one thing that takes away from an otherwise fantastic experience.

Despite the coffee skin issue, the Ember Mug is still an incredibly useful product for gamers and content creators alike. It keeps my coffee hot for hours, integrates seamlessly with my routine, and eliminates the need to constantly reheat or remake my drink.
If you value having your coffee at the perfect temperature throughout a gaming session or workday, this mug is a solid investment. I just hope Ember finds a way to tackle the coffee skin problem in future iterations because it’s the one thing keeping it from being perfect. I did notice that in other countries you are able to buy a cup lid that seems to address the skin issue, however at the time of writing this review, the same is not true for Australia. I am sure you'd be able to find something on Etsy, or Amazon though.
