KAT VR Announces KAT Walk C3 Ultra, Featuring Backward Walking, Haptic Feedback and Headset Charging

KAT VR has announced the KAT Walk C3 Ultra, a new flagship omnidirectional VR treadmill designed to make virtual reality movement feel more natural. Launching on October 27, 2026, the C3 Ultra introduces several upgrades over its predecessor, including a mechanical backward-walking system, improved tracking, expanded movement space and optional continuous headset charging.

The biggest addition is a feature KAT VR calls “all actions” movement, which aims to make physically stepping backwards in VR feel as natural as walking forwards. Rather than relying on a thumbstick to retreat from an approaching enemy, players can lean backwards to engage a mechanical safety lock that allows them to step back physically. Leaning forward releases the lock, with the system designed to operate without requiring button presses or menu inputs.

It's an interesting development for VR gaming, particularly in experiences where positioning and movement are an important part of the gameplay. Whether you're trying to create distance from an enemy in Blade & Sorcery or backing away from an approaching threat in Resident Evil 4 VR, the idea is to let your natural physical reactions translate more directly into the virtual world.

A Larger Platform With More Natural Movement

The C3 Ultra features a platform that's 15% larger than the previous KAT Walk C2, providing additional space for longer strides and repositioning. Players can also adjust walking friction while using the treadmill, while the updated design supports a wider range of physical movements, including leaning, squatting and shifting their weight.

KAT VR says the new system also increases the available jump and crouch range by 62.85% compared with the C2. This should provide more room for physical movement during VR combat and exploration, where crouching behind cover, peeking around obstacles or jumping away from danger can help make an experience feel more immersive.

For players who prefer a more relaxed experience, a separate Sit Module will also be available for supported seated experiences.

Upgraded Tracking and Full-Body Haptics

Tracking has also received attention, with KAT VR introducing an upgraded sensor system featuring optical tracking and improved processing. The company claims latency as low as 5ms, aiming to deliver responsive movement that keeps pace with the player's physical actions.

The new magnetic sensors also feature USB-C charging and can be attached or removed more easily, making them more convenient to manage between sessions.

Another addition is the C3 Haptics Shoes, which integrate vibration motors into the soles to extend physical feedback to the player's feet. These shoes can synchronise with the treadmill base and VR controllers, allowing supported interactions and movement to be accompanied by additional tactile feedback.

The idea is to make VR feel more physical, rather than relying entirely on what players see and hear through their headsets. While the effectiveness of this approach will ultimately depend on the games and experiences supported, it's another interesting step towards making full-body VR more immersive.

Power Edition Adds Built-In Headset Charging

For those who regularly use standalone VR headsets, battery life can be a frustrating limitation during longer sessions. KAT VR is addressing this with the C3 Ultra Power Edition, which includes built-in USB charging intended to provide continuous power to a compatible VR headset while playing.

The Power Edition features a USB-C port rated for up to 100W output, with support for PD 2.0, PD 3.0, PPS and other charging protocols. KAT VR says it can deliver up to 20W of PD 2.0 charging power directly to a Meta Quest 3. There's also a USB-A port offering 5V/2A output, equivalent to 10W.

The Standard Edition does not include this built-in charging system, making the Power Edition the option to consider for players who want to minimise interruptions caused by headset battery life.

PCVR and Meta Quest Compatibility

The KAT Walk C3 Ultra is designed to support a broad range of VR experiences rather than functioning as a closed gaming platform. It targets PCVR users in particular, with physical locomotion intended to enhance games where movement, positioning and immersion play a significant role.

KAT VR is also introducing an updated KAT Quest Adapter for standalone Meta Quest users. The adapter features an RJ-45 port and three USB-A ports, with the company claiming compatibility with more than 100 Meta Quest games. This is intended to bring the treadmill's movement capabilities to supported standalone VR experiences without requiring a PC.

As always, compatibility will depend on the specific game, connection method and supported features, so players should check the official compatibility information before purchasing.

KAT Walk C3 Ultra Pricing and Availability

The KAT Walk C3 Ultra launches on October 27, 2026, and will be available in Standard and Power editions, with bundles that include the Quest Adapter.

The announced pricing is as follows:

The Power Edition carries a higher price due to its integrated headset-charging capabilities. The early-bird pricing offers a substantial discount compared with the standard Quest Adapter bundle, although availability is expected to be limited.

According to KAT VR, just 100 units will be available for immediate shipping at launch. Orders will be selected at random within one week of purchase, with the first 100 selected orders shipping immediately and remaining orders guaranteed to ship by mid-November. The company also says the treadmill will be available through Amazon.

Australian buyers should check the official KAT VR store for local availability, shipping costs and final checkout pricing before placing an order.

Could This Be the Next Step for VR Movement?

The KAT Walk C3 Ultra looks to be a substantial update to KAT VR's existing treadmill range, with backward walking arguably its most interesting addition. Physical movement has always been one of the biggest challenges in VR gaming, with players often having to rely on thumbsticks or other conventional controls when their instincts tell them to move their bodies instead.

By combining omnidirectional movement with a dedicated mechanical system for stepping backwards, KAT VR is attempting to close that gap. The larger platform, upgraded tracking and optional haptic shoes add to the experience, while built-in headset charging on the Power Edition could make longer sessions more convenient.

Of course, the C3 Ultra remains a significant investment, particularly for home users, and its real-world value will depend on comfort, compatibility and how well its movement systems work across supported games. Nevertheless, for VR enthusiasts looking to take physical immersion further, it's an interesting new option to watch.

The KAT Walk C3 Ultra launches on October 27, 2026, with Standard and Power editions available alongside Quest Adapter bundles. You can find further details and purchasing information through the official KAT VR website.
