Turtle Beach Stealth 2 Pro Headset Review

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro 2 is a great gaming headset that delivers where it matters most. The sound quality is good, positional audio works well, and the hot-swappable battery system makes it practical for longer gaming sessions. There is a lot to like here, and overall, I've been happy with the experience.

However, it's not without its frustrations. Battery life is decent rather than outstanding, and while the interchangeable batteries help, my biggest issue is actually the headband. It grabs and pulls at my hair, meaning I'm constantly having to readjust the headset to get comfortable again. For a headset at this price, that's a pretty frustrating problem to have.

The Stealth Pro 2 is undoubtedly a good headset, but I'm not convinced it's worth the asking price. It's a premium product with plenty going for it, yet a couple of design choices stop it from being an easy recommendation at full price.

Sound quality is where it counts

The most important thing for me with any gaming headset is how it sounds, and the Stealth Pro 2 does a good job here. Audio is clear, games sound engaging, and there's enough detail to make the experience enjoyable across different genres. Whether I'm playing something where atmosphere matters or a competitive game where I need to pay attention to what's happening around me, the headset delivers a solid experience.

Positional audio is another highlight. Being able to work out where sounds are coming from can make a real difference in games, particularly when you're trying to locate enemies, react to movement or pick out subtle audio cues. The Stealth Pro 2 performs well in this area, and that adds to the overall experience.

It isn't necessarily a case of the headset completely transforming how every game sounds, but it does the important things well. The audio quality is good enough that I can happily spend extended periods gaming with it, and I don't find myself wishing I were using something else simply because of how it sounds.

For me, that's a major positive. A gaming headset can have all the extra features in the world, but if the sound isn't up to scratch, none of them matter. Thankfully, the Stealth Pro 2 gets this part right.

Battery life is okay, and hot-swapping helps

Battery life is perfectly usable, but I wouldn't call it exceptional. Given the price and premium positioning of the Stealth Pro 2, I'd like to see a little more endurance before needing to change batteries.

Fortunately, Turtle Beach has included a hot-swappable battery system, which makes the situation considerably easier to manage. Rather than having to stop gaming and wait for the headset to charge, I can simply swap in a charged battery and get back to what I was doing.

This is particularly convenient because I've also been using the Turtle Beach MC7 mouse, which has a similar interchangeable battery setup. Between the two devices, I now have four interchangeable batteries that I can swap in and out as needed. It makes managing battery life across my gaming peripherals a little easier, and I like the convenience of having spare batteries ready to go.

It's a genuinely useful feature, and I'd much rather have this system than be forced to plug the headset in every time the battery runs flat. However, I still see it as a way of mitigating the battery limitations rather than a reason to overlook them entirely. Good battery life should be a priority in a premium wireless headset, even when swapping batteries is easy.

The headband is my biggest complaint

As good as the Stealth Pro 2 is in other areas, the headband is where I have the biggest problem. It grabs and pulls on my hair, which becomes annoying when I'm trying to settle into a gaming session.

This isn't just a minor inconvenience that happens once in a while. I find myself constantly having to readjust the headset because the headband catches my hair and pulls at it. Once you've noticed it, it becomes difficult to ignore, and it takes away from what should otherwise be a comfortable experience.

Comfort is incredibly important for a gaming headset, especially if you're someone who spends hours at a time playing games. You want to put it on, get comfortable and forget you're wearing it. Instead, I find myself fiddling with the fit and repositioning the headset more often than I'd like.

What's frustrating is that the headset gets so much else right. The sound quality is good, positional audio is effective, and the battery system is convenient. Yet this one design issue has a noticeable impact on how much I enjoy using it.

At this price, I expect a headset to be comfortable as well as sound good. The headband doesn't ruin the product, but it is easily my biggest criticism and something I'd want Turtle Beach to address in a future revision.

Is the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro 2 worth the money?

The Stealth Pro 2 is a great gaming headset overall. It sounds good, positional audio is strong, and the hot-swappable battery system is genuinely useful. The ability to keep spare batteries charged and swap them in without waiting around is a practical advantage, especially now that I'm using the same battery approach with my MC7 mouse.

Unfortunately, the headband is a real annoyance. Having it repeatedly grab and pull at my hair means I'm constantly readjusting the headset, which is not something I want to be doing with a premium product. Battery life is also only okay, although the interchangeable battery system does make that easier to live with.

My other reservation is the price. I like the headset, and I think it's a good product, but I'm not convinced the overall experience justifies the premium asking price. The sound quality and positional audio are excellent reasons to consider it, but the comfort issue and merely adequate battery endurance stop it from feeling like a truly top-tier option.

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro 2 is a great headset that delivers where it matters most, with good sound quality, effective positional audio and a useful hot-swappable battery system. However, the headband constantly catching my hair is a frustrating design flaw, and the battery life could be better. I like the headset overall, but I wouldn't say it's worth the full asking price. If you can find it at a good discount, it's much easier to recommend.
