JSAUX ROG ALLY X Accessories Review

The ROG Ally X is the latest release in the ever evolving handheld gaming market, delivering best in class performance with its powerful specs and portable design, making it our top pick for gamers on the go. However, there’s currently limited official accessory support, leaving many users looking for quality aftermarket solutions. So, where should you turn? We’ve tested a range of accessories from JSAUX, a brand that’s made a name in the aftermarket space. While not every product hits the mark, JSAUX offers many high-quality accessories that perform their role exceptionally well. Some stand out as must-haves, while others may be worth skipping.

Check out our breakdown below to see which JSAUX accessories for the Rog Ally X are worth the investment, and which ones might be better left behind. It's important to mention that JSAUX sent us all the products tested for the purpose of review, but they have no input whatsoever in what we write, so the opinions below are 100% our own

What we like:

The JSAUX Modcase for the Rog Ally X, priced at $29.99 USD, is a robust, travel-friendly case that offers reliable protection without adding bulk or overheating issues. During a recent two-week trip to Japan, this case endured quite the test, including being tossed around in carry-on luggage by a three-year-old and even stepped on at one point! Despite the rigorous handling, the Modcase held up incredibly well, safeguarding the Ally X from scratches, pressure, and impacts. It’s clear this case is built with durability in mind, keeping your device safe even under unexpected (and sometimes tiny-footed) conditions.

One standout feature of the Modcase is its heat management. Even with the added layer of protection, the case has zero impact on the device's airflow or temperature. This means you can game for extended periods without worrying about any overheating from the case's extra coverage, which is a welcome surprise for a protective case like this.

Perhaps the Modcase’s best feature is the kickstand, which the Ally X itself could have benefitted from. This sturdy, well-designed kickstand provides a huge amount of versatility, whether you’re working at a desk, watching TV and movies, or gaming on the go. It's ideal for both travel and daily use, and its solid build makes it reliable on any flat surface. For those who enjoy a hands-free setup, the kickstand is a major asset that adds real value to the case.

The Modcase also includes a powerbank strap designed to hold an optional 65W, 20,000mAh battery pack (sold separately) to extend your gaming time. While I haven’t personally used the strap much yet, as the kickstand has been my main focus, I can see it being extremely useful for those on longer trips who need extra battery life.

The JSAUX Modcase is a smart investment for Rog Ally X owners looking for tough, travel-ready protection with functional extras. The kickstand alone elevates the case from being purely protective to genuinely practical, offering freedom and stability for various setups. At $29.99, it’s well-priced for the level of protection and added features it provides, making it an excellent choice for Ally X users who prioritise both durability and convenience.

The JSAUX HB0609 6-in-1 Docking Station, priced at $45.99 USD, is the only JSAUX dock purpose-built to fit the Rog Ally X comfortably. While some other JSAUX docks can be modified to work with the Ally X, this model is designed specifically for a seamless fit. It's perfect for transforming your handheld Windows PC into a fully functional desktop wherever you are.

On the back, the HB0609 packs six very useful I/O ports:

  • 3x USB 3.1 ports with 5Gbps speeds (including one USB-C).

  • 1x Gigabit Ethernet port for a stable, fast 1000Mbps wired connection

  • 1x HDMI output capable of 4K at 120Hz or 1080p at 240Hz

These ports make it simple to connect peripherals, charge devices, and hook up to a monitor or TV, enabling you to use your Ally X as a fully fledged desktop PC.

One of the dock’s unique features is its customizable front shell, which allows you to add a bit of personality to your setup. The shell is easy to switch out, letting you tailor the dock’s look to suit your style, while you won't see this when your Ally X is docked, it's a nice touch for users who appreciate a bit of customisation.

The HB0609 also fits the Ally X with the JSAUX Modcase on, saving you the hassle of removing it every time you want to dock. This makes it convenient for users who want to keep their device protected at all times. Personally, I live in a house with a 3 year old so knowing my Ally is protected in the event she ever gets her hands on it gives me at least some peace of mind. The dock is also compatible with other handhelds like the Previous generation Ally, Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go, making it a versatile choice, particularly if you have more than one device.

Overall, the JSAUX HB0609 is a well-priced docking station packed with useful features, making it an ideal accessory for anyone looking to turn their Rog Ally X into a desktop PC. Its purpose-built fit for the Ally X, compatibility with the Modcase, customizable front shell, and powerful port configuration make it a reliable and stylish choice for both home and travel use. At $45.99USD, it’s a great value for its versatility, design, and functionality.

The JSAUX HB0604 6-in-1 Docking Station is priced at $99.99 USD and includes a 65W charger (though no Australian adapter). Designed as a versatile docking solution, it wasn’t specifically made for the Rog Ally X, meaning a bit of adjustment is needed. By removing the rubber inserts where the Ally sits, the device fits more snugly. However, bear in mind this modification could lead to potential marks on the Ally X over time due to the lack of protective padding.

One of the HB0604’s standout features is the M.2 SSD slot on the top, which significantly expands its storage capabilities. For handheld PCs, which can be limited in internal storage, having an external SSD dock opens up new possibilities. You can add whatever size SSD you choose, turning a moderate game library into a powerhouse. This is ideal for storing games you’re more likely to play at home rather than on the go. For instance, while I prefer to keep portable-friendly games like God of War Ragnarok on the Ally’s internal storage, I store larger, less travel-friendly titles (such as Call of Duty) on a 2TB SSD within the dock. This way, I can play these games on a monitor with a keyboard and mouse setup whenever I’m docked.

In terms of connectivity, the HB0604 offers the following:

  • 2x USB 3.2 ports with upto 10Gbps speed.

  • 1x Ethernet port for wired internet at 1000Mbps.

  • 1x HDMI output capable of 4K at 60Hz

These options ensure seamless connectivity for gaming or media streaming on a larger display, all while keeping your peripherals plugged in and ready to go.

Additional Options and Value for $209.99 USD, you can get the HB0604 bundled with a 2TB M.2 SSD, making this a strong value depending on the quality of the SSD included. For anyone looking to have an expansive library of games and media ready to play, the storage expansion alone makes this dock worth the investment.

The JSAUX HB0604 is a flexible and powerful docking option for Rog Ally X users, particularly those who need a substantial storage boost. Its M.2 SSD slot makes it an ideal hub for any large PC gaming library. Just keep in mind the potential for minor wear and tear on the Ally’s front if you remove the rubber inserts. Still, for $99.99 USD, the dock is an excellent choice for transforming a handheld PC into a desktop-ready setup with an extended library at your fingertips.

What We did not like:

JSAUX RGB Docking Station (HB1201)

The JSAUX RGB Docking Station (HB1201) definitely brings some unique features to the table, unfortunately though, it falls short of the high standards set by other JSAUX docks. Priced similarly to its more robust counterparts, this model doesn’t quite measure up in terms of build quality. Where other JSAUX products feel solid and durable, this dock feels flimsy and even a bit cheap, especially noticeable in its “push to open” dock stand, which lacks the sturdy feel you’d expect.

The HB1201 does allow for additional storage via SD card slots, although, for most users, this may be a somewhat redundant option compared to the faster, larger storage options in other docks (such as the HB0604’s M.2 SSD slot). It also features customizable RGB lighting, which some will enjoy for the extra visual flair it adds to their setup.

One of the main advantages of the HB1201 over other JSAUX docks is its ability to connect to two monitors simultaneously. With both HDMI and DisplayPort outputs on the back, you can expand your Ally X setup to a dual-monitor configuration. This can be a game-changer for productivity or multi-window gaming setups.

Does the JSAUX RGB Docking Station fulfil its purpose? Yes, it does. But is it the best option available? Definitely not. The docks we reviewed earlier (HB0609 and HB0604) offer much better build quality, storage options, and reliability. Unless you specifically need dual-monitor support, there are stronger options in JSAUX’s lineup for the Ally X. The RGB Docking Station’s appeal lies mostly in its aesthetic features and dual-monitor capability, but for everyday use, you’re likely better off with one of the sturdier models.

Honourable Mentions:

While some JSAUX accessories for the Rog Ally X are game changers, others don’t quite need their own full review, as they’re simpler in design yet still fulfil their purpose effectively. Here’s a quick look at a couple of them:

  • Anti-Glare Screen Protector: This screen protector does exactly what it promises. It has a great feel, doesn’t impact screen clarity or touchscreen sensitivity, and has performed well in protecting against fingerprints and scratches. A solid pick for anyone wanting reliable screen protection.

  • Carry Case for Handheld: This case is a one-size-fits-all solution that checks all the right boxes for storage and protection. It has plenty of space for accessories and even includes slots for SD cards. However, the Ally X doesn’t fit quite as snugly as it could, so it’s clear the case wasn’t specifically designed for it. That said, would I recommend it? Sure, it’s solid and does the job.
