Alien: Isolation Sequel Announced

Alien: Isolation was released ten years ago! It's hard to believe that a decade has passed since Creative Assembly and Sega gave horror fans one of the previous generation's most heart-pounding survival horror experiences. Upon its release, the game met with critical acclaim from fans and critics. By May 2015, the game had sold more than 2 million copies. Despite the positive reception, sales failed to meet Sega's expectations, and a sequel never came out because of this. In recent years, the game has grown in popularity and the recent release of Alien: Romulus proved that there is still a strong market for the franchise. In recent years, Creative Assembly has focused on developing sequels to their established Total War series. However, Isolation's director, Alistair Hope, took to social media to make an exciting announcement: Alien: Isolation is officially getting a sequel.

On October 8th 2024, Hope took to social media to make the announcement.

“It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of ALIEN: ISOLATION.

When we started developing ALIEN: ISOLATION, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the ALIEN franchise - a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.

It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world. Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams (!) and steely courage in the face of cinema’s greatest killer, have been profoundly rewarding.

Whether you’re a nightmare mode veteran or stepping into Amanda Ripley’s shoes for that thrilling first attempt (good luck!), we wanted to express our deep gratitude. It was a dream project brought to life by a brilliant team, and the reception you have given it over the years is extraordinary.

On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.

Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION is in early development.

We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.

Once again, thank you.

Until next time,

Al Hope, Creative Director — ALIEN: ISOLATION.”

Fans quickly responded with delight and their deepest thanks for the team developing a sequel. A movie tie-in game rarely has a strong fanbase, especially in the modern gaming market. GoldenEye 007, arguably the most acclaimed movie tie-in game of all time, is the best example of a movie franchise transferring to gaming in an impactful way. There have been other excellent movie franchise video games like Spider-Man 2, James Bond: Everything or Nothing and Lego Star Wars, but none of these have reached the level of relevance as GoldenEye or Alien: Isolation

News of an Alien: Isolation is also a fantastic step forward for the survival horror genre. Many of the best horror games have been remakes/remasters in recent years. Revisiting classics is not bad; Resident Evil 2, Dead Space and Alan Wake: Remastered proved worthy of the treatment. However, Alien: Isolation is getting a sequel, allowing the team to tell a different story, expand on the mechanics of the original and (hopefully) give gamers brand-new nightmares. The game is likely early in development; no more news will come soon. However, Creative Assembly's return to Alien is exciting.

Side Note: Alien is my favourite horror film and one of my favourite films of all time.
