The coronavirus outbreak that started massive lockdowns across the world, prompted Niantic to modify Pokemon GO spawn rates to encourage people to stay safe at home.
It looks like that initiative certainly paid off for the game!
According to data by GoldenCasinoNews, player spending in the game reached a high of $23 million in the week of March 9 – 16. Thats nearly a 70% increase over the previous week. This was around the time when lockdowns were starting to take effect across many nations.
This is similar to SuperData’s own report, which estimates that the game made a whopping $111 million USD overall during March 2020.
Looks like Niantic definitely managed to capture players’ attention during a tough time in lockdown!
