Tackling My Gaming Backlog: June Check-In

I have stated the obvious numerous times during this series, but it is now an inevitability. My attempt to get through as much of my gaming backlog as possible was far too ambitious. I had no idea how slow the progress would be, nor did I realise how much I take advantage of video game sales on Nintendo, PlayStation and Steam. Nevertheless, I am still making a conscious effort to continue on my doomed journey. June was a slow month for games, and I only managed to finish one game from my humongous backlog.

Cyberpunk 2077 — PS5 — 25h 35m — 8/10

Despite the controversy of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, the game has come a long way in the past four years. I bought the game at the end of 2024, and I was sceptical about the state of the game and whether or not I would enjoy it. After beating the main campaign, I fell in love with the world, characters and story of the game.

My biggest takeaway from Cyberpunk 2077 is also the thing I found most disappointing. I wish I had known beforehand how much time you would have to invest in the side missions. During my playthrough, I made a huge dent in the side missions of the story. However, when I received the final missions and learned about some of the possible outcomes and who could be involved, it made me feel quite deflated. The ending I got was good, but the whole build-up was very disappointing. Cyberpunk 2077 is not a game to play quickly; you have to prioritise the side missions in order to get the most out of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game I would rate much higher on a second playthrough. But for now, I am happy giving it an 8/10. I should also note that I did not encounter any game-breaking glitches. The game did crash once on the PS5, but no other issues occurred.

Gaming Backlog: Summary

It’s been a very slow month. I played two fantastic games and two disappointing games. However, July is going to be a huge month as I am already working on several reviews for the coming weeks.

In total, my gaming time for 2025 is currently at… 318 hours and 34 minutes!

Gaming Backlog: New Additions

Two more games entered my gaming backlog this month:

  • Fast Fusion (Nintendo Switch 2)

  • SteamWorld Dig (PC)
